Love this! Loved karate as a teen; studied and competed on an overseas military base. At 16, all of my classmates were army, navy, marines. We did exhibition shows sometimes. I was allowed to stay not as a mascot; I never once complained. We took punishment as a matter of course and were expected to NEVER complain. They let me stay because of that. Initially, understand, this was an all male thing. I was the first female, and they completely ignored me for the first few months. After the instructor began hitting me with the bamboo rod, as he did for all who faltered, I realized I was IN. I was oddly proud to receive the blows. At first some of the men were hesitant to hit a female until they heard that I was supposed to hit them as hard as I could, and they realized I DID. They were shamed for faking, or holding back. I got my ass beat a hundred or so times, no lie. Not one iota of sympathy. Broke two bones. I FULLY understood why. Part of our exhibition included my 6 foot 200 pound instructor standing on my belly for a minute at a time, while gesturing with his rod. you know I was tightened, and ready. For exhibition they would put me with the biggest, scariest looking other students. Of course, I fought these guys six hours six days a week, so it wasn't as unequal as it sounds, it just LOOKED more scary with a little girl against a huge marine. So glad I got to go through that, because I was a very timid, scared little girl and it changed me. I've TALKED my way out of a few muggings, no lie, because I was confident that I could possibly WIN a hand to hand combat. Muggers are a bit thrown off when their victim is calm and confident. Of course....I could have died....but I won the dice roll. Don't think for a moment that when I got home behind locked doors I was as confident. no I remember collapsing in tears behind the door when I suddenly realized what COULD have been....but in both cases my first reaction was calm. The fear didn't strike until the event was over. That's very important. It's okay to be confused and scared AFTERWARDS. the goal was to meet the event in a calm manner. So happy to see more kids in this' they NEED it, not just for bodily strength and flexibility, but for the inner strength to believe they can do miracles. My instructor TOLD me to fight this man and win. Therefore, I CAN.

The opening act (world Tae Kwon Do 🥋) were sensational 🫵😁👍. I loved how they sent the wood flying in all directions with no-one safe & Terry trying to “hide” behind a small piece of wood ✋️😆

@ 11:36… Dustin’s Dojo (with Terry) was one of those “so bad they’re actually so good” (entertainment wise) acts that were truly hilarious & memorable 🫵😆
