Not surprising.. There was a documentary I watched on him and his life a few years ago.. and he mentioned in it that whenever he broke someone's heart with his "criticism" on stage on American Idol and America's Got Talent that it broke his own heart a little but that the producers of the series wanted him to be harsh sometimes as it was helping to keep the ratings high.
