But his style is already out there. People who watch idol never seen it because that's not something they'd normally listen to by choice. Emo music had existed for decades. He sounds like dashboard confessional and artists like that not John Mayer or whatever is mainstream. Alejandro is talented but this show is overshadowing good singers on here. The way Katy was talking about him when he made it to 20 was weird. He doesn't have a super interesting story and he's an introvert and he's just him. They want a superstar and some are not that, this show isnt about true musicians. Top 20 he's either going to not be able to be himself which they don't want or he will be out.

There can only be one winner each season; but each season brings out a whole crop of people who didn't win the show, yet went on to have amazing careers on their own terms. His talent and musical skills, while not so utterly unique as @Yaelryy Spear said above, are still being highlighted in a format that will broaden the reach of that musical style tremendously. It may help others of similar style to find an audience they otherwise would not have gained.

I've been a musician my whole life, been listening to music of all kinds for as long as I can remember. I have never felt so strongly about an artist like I do about my boy right here...honest, simple, humble, pure, no flash - just a kid loving every second he gets to do what he loves to do. His look/reaction at 3:04 says it all - he has NO IDEA how good he is...how awesome is that?

I was about to give up on searching for any male Songwriters, but this guy is the answer because women were just taking all the spots and yes it takes a genius and I don't like the attitude of some geniuses out there, but this one has the right attitude and the right music (Music that takes you to other worlds)

And his favorite artists... Chopin and Bach... he's just a pure musical genius like into their levels.

"Can I call you a pop star?" No, please don't. The guy is so much better than that and real to the core. How about you call him "naturally gifted and real musician" - that's a complement!

This kid is so good, he may not be able to go out in public necause of his stardom - and that's before the end of this season. He should honestly prepare himself. His success is going to come in a massive wave. He's definitely prodigy material. I'm definitely going to his concert.

I love the smile he has at the end of his performance. You can just see how rewarding it is for him to be there and experience a crowds reaction to his music. In his audition he was pretty awkward and nervous and even when the judges complimented him he didn't smile or look excited. I'm not sure if that was because of his nervousness or just because he came from a rough point in time in his life, but I am so so glad that he is more expressive and he can have such a genuine, beautiful smile after performing for an audience. You're seriously freaking fantastic Alejandro, and you now have so many fans who will be looking for your music whether you win or not!

Wow!!!!! I love him. He inspires me so much. He brought tears to my eyes. I am speechless.

This is what the country needs is a talent like this who's so humble while his music, the sound and words can bring people together! Discovering Alejandro the way it's happening is exciting and I can't wait to see more of what he can do! His appeal that isn't bublegum POP culture will keep him from winning but it'll put in a better place out of their control so he can do his own thing!

Never had another persons singing voice bring tears to my eyes until I watched this.

He’s literally what I watch this season of American idol for . Seriously blown away by his talent every time .

Every now and then I think we are all blessed to listen to something so pure and creative it’s as if we’re getting a small glimpse into heaven! His talent is other-worldly!

I’m always coming back to Alejandro’s videos because he was the most original person on idol. Just love everything that he did ❤

I can easily see one of his own songs or a cover like this one being part of the soundtrack of a movie. His music takes you places...

thats what his instagraam proves. the first half is him playing a song, then it switches to a movie scene (trees, flowers, clouds, people running, etc) and it is PERFECT. he can create music for anything

It's not even his singing, but the way he releases emotions through his artistry being one with his instrument: GOOSEBUMPS!

I;ve been a professional musician for 55 years. Alejandro is the best thing I've heard in years. The world really needs his music. The opening line of this song gives me the chills. He is an angel and a beautiful unpretensious presence .He could tour with just his guitar and piano and fill stadiums. I hope so much that he wins this little contest, but I know how much he is needed on the scene, and he will be out there irregardless. I flip out everytime he sings. Alejandro, you are born for this. You are so beautiful , humble and your music is SO beautiful !!!

Just watched again today. Made me cry within the first 15 seconds. He is so special, and he has no idea.

He reminds me so much of Ed Sheeran too! In the way that he is awkward but loosens up once a guitar is in his hands, and to some extent the way he plays music. Yes he is his own person and ofc is different, but i think they have a similar vibe. I actually think of Alejandro as sort of a NEW Ed Sheeran cuz after he got popular Ed kinda lost his vibe with music and the poeticness/unique lyrics he used to have... Like his most recent album was kinda folky and i was like lol what? What happened to the lego house and a team days? xD So Alejandro gives me hope for some awesome acoustic music with beautiful lyrics!

@@brucecall4509 for real he's 🔥 on the piano too... He plays open tuning on the guitar which creates depth without doing a whole lot, if I'm being honest (I'm a guitarist for over 25 years and spotted this immediately from his audition) but his piano playing is on another level.

I love the fact that he is so humble. But that is the usually the case with the brightest stars, they dont have a clue how good they really are.

He's got an entirely unique style. So unique, as a matter of fact, it's like he's creating a whole new genre of music! It's hauntingly beautiful with an understated, yet elegant technical virtuosity. If that makes any sense.

From his very first performance (during the audition) when I read from my phone screen that he's working as a dishwasher, I said, "oh God, thank you for keeping Alejandro's hands safe". His hands are very magical when he starts to play the guitar or piano. 😍😍😍😍😍
