Plus, there is a difference between judging a performance and being plain out rude with the performancer. Simon used to do the latter a lot in the begging, laughing at people for how they looked, mocking people's clothes or names et cetera... Howie wasn't rude with the kid. He said no, that was it. Howie made a call back in the day, and he was probably right at that moment: he should not have to apologize for making that decision. The Mum should not be in this business if she can't deal with some rejection. Sure, being a judge means that you'll have to deal with unhappy contestants, and Howie had to know that's part of what he signed up for. But having fellow judges pick on the guy with anxiety is NOT COOL.

Exactly. When you’re in the industry, you have to have tough skin because they’ll give you the truth whether you’re ready to hear it or not. That’s what you submit yourself to the moment you decide to go professional. Plus, in the industry, criticism doesn’t have an age limit no matter how it comes across. From a performer’s perspective, I didn’t feel that Howie was rude in the clip. He was just giving his honest opinion and it sounded like constructive criticism to me. The problem is we’ve become too soft as a society where we’re afraid to hurt other’s feelings and where everybody’s given an award just for participating, which in turn, gives off the message that we’re good at something even if we would need to improve. There’s no pass or shortcut for hard work in the real world and we need to come back to that principle.

Despite that, he was just being honest with his opinion of what he feels with any presentation on the stage. Being on that stage be prepared for any feedback or criticism. Agreed 100%. If these kids end up in Vegas they will face worse scrutiny than Howie Mandel. He wasnt wrong for his honesty...maybe his word choices were bad and he definitely could have said the same thing by finding the right words...But if they end up in an even bigger spotlight during their careers, they need to learn that criticism is very real in show business. If their mom also feels attacked because she is, in a way, living vicariously through her children, she will wind up becoming a miserable and angry parent when/if they do become famous beyond AGT.

@@KevBuckets You're exactly right. That's pretty much what I said. He wasnt wrong for criticizing and I have nothing against it, but wording changes everything. I know this because I'm a school teacher. As I already said, if they get into the professional dancing circuit and under the microscope of the mass media, they (and their brother) most likely WILL end up hearing more comments similar to Howie's. Their mom needs to understand that what Howie said is like a bee sting compared to the bullets fired when it comes to what could be said by hateful people on social media. But this show is not all about preparing talented people for the negative aspects of a life in show business where the judges give negative reviews as if they were art critics. It's to encourage contestants to keep moving forward throughout the season and to get better as they advance throughout the season. He definitely could have chosen better words. Bad reviews coming from art critics is something they might have to deal with later as they rise to fame. But comments like Howie's is enough to make someone feel so discouraged that they give up continuing to try. So, their mom could very well just be angry at the way Howie said what he said, but not at what he said. I also find it very interesting that Howie asked if they knew someone that was on the show before. I dont recall if that's something usually asked by the judges. But it seems odd to me that he would just happen to ask that, have it confirmed true, then the angry mother is ready backstage to go give Howie a piece of her mind. I'm definitely not 100% on this...nowhere close (and if I'm wrong please feel free to just let me know) but it seems like this may have been one of those times when a performance is partially or even fully scripted in the hopes for better ratings.

You maybe a teen, an adult or a senior citizen but you're not their age and you probably can't do what they did on stage. And I bet after a few more years of practice they'll get to their mom and brother. What I meant in my previous reply was that Howie had to apologize. I couldn’t agree more. Shows evolve now more than ever because of what people desire. Sob stories win. That’s what tugs at the heartstrings. It used to be more realistic in the beginning because that’s how the world is; cut throat. Feelings didn’t matter, making money mattered. Then they realized that these sob stories brought up the ratings. I feel they are selling the sob stories more than they are the talent. The judges attitudes also evolved. I don’t know them and assume like most “reality shows” they are playing a part, a character. With the addition of other competitive shows their character evolved. We as a society has also evolved. We want to see these sob stories, these vendetta’s, and these wrongs righted. We’re rooting for the underdog! I am not implying any of this is right or wrong but only my observations.

I really really really feel bad for the kids because their mom is gonna make it extremely difficult for either one of them to be successful in life because she refuses to allow them to learn the 2 most important life lessons that every kid needs to know which are 1 it doesn't matter if you can sing, dance, act, paint or whatever talent that you're blessed with there will always be somebody else who can do it much much much better than you ...&2 losing is a part of life therefore you might as well get used to it.

The thing is… Howie is literally a judge! They’re looking for the best talent… don’t get me wrong, nothing against the kid, and just making it to the live shows is an amazing accomplishment, but just because it was a child doesn’t mean Howie shouldn’t do his job! From what I saw, he wasn’t all that rude, he simply said what he was which was that the kid used the same move multiple times. Why shouldn’t he be honest when it’s a talent competition? Holding a grudge for 6 years is ridiculous… I’m sure the kid has moved on! Sad thing is the mother probably told them to make sure the kids mentioned that the brother didn’t win, so they could sort of guilt trip Howie.

When you put your kids out there to be judged, then that’s the chance you take. Howie was a bit harsh, but the real world is harsher. There’s loads of talented kids out there and they will be judged against each other when they go out on auditions or when they try out on talent shows. This mom is no different than a mom who sees her child get tackled in a football game, and she goes running onto the field because she thinks her baby was tackled too hard. Howie simply let that kid know that he needs to improve on his act and not deliver the same moves in each dance. If he wants to pursue a career in show business, Howie is just the beginning of tough critiques. Mom, we would all like to keep our kids in bubbles, but they can’t breathe in there for very long…

Never seen the full storyline but based on the flashback they showed, howie gave a very valid critique that even professional dancers could get when auditioning/competing. No one wants to see the same steps or something you’ve done before because they already know you can do it and you could do it worse the second time. They want something they haven’t seen before. As for the buzzing, it’s literally a part of AGT lmao, everyone should be prepared that it could happen to them.

He could have waited until all of the judges gave their opinion and then added his opinion in a nicer more constructive way. Of course the Mother is going to be angry.....she's a Mother and Mother's protect their children. Having said that, I also feel it was set up to appear the way it did for show purposes and I don't even think the kids and the Mother were in on what was going on.
