Yes, I'm still in awe of what this young lady accomplished at AGT. I don't think you can ever top the story of a 12 year old getting a ukulele at 11, learning how to play it on her own and then writing a song at 12 that blows everyone's mind in the process, it's still unbelievable to me.

she didn't just write the ONE, she wrote every song she used to eventually win AGT. I have followed her on YT since and she still writes great songs. I honestly can't believe she isn't bigger in the music world than she is. I think her parents have protected her from much of the limelight but I expected hit songs by now. Most of her originals now are so good, I can't believe they didn't end up in the top 20 on the charts.

She is the one who inspired me to play the ukulele and sing as well as my English teacher from 4th grader. I’ve been singing and playing the uke for four years now!!

You def can top a made up story I know her family, she's been in music lessons her whole life, she performs locally, she has people write her songs She sings well, which she was trained to do, but, she's a puppet, not an artist

She in a play, the wizard of Oz, a few months before her audition. She only started taking lessons just before the shows. Quit making crap up. You know nothing!

IKR... was such a real and pure moment... im still praying for her to get to where she wants as the music industry is still coming at her like a pack of wolves trying to Mold her... im just glad shes been able to fend them off to some degree... but shes suffered from not going along with their sicko plans to exploit her...

Finally somebody who understands how the world actually works. There are a large assortment of comments about how unbelievable this is or how no one's "quick rise to fame" story will ever best this story of a girl who uses gift money from her 11th birthday to buy a ukulele and in just over a year became instantly famous after playing a single original song during the annual televised audition for the largest International talent show franchise ever to exist. That's why in America we tell our kids they can do anything they put their mind to because as long as they believe that Anything is Possible and that they can do anyting they can't lose. That way they know if they do lose or can't learn how to do something they've set out to do they know it's all their fault for not putting their mind to it and not believing Anything is Possible.

She is now 18

The fact she even makes a minor error and it is barely noticed by anyone, shows how overwhelming her natural talent truly is. When someone's voice conveys that much emotion and meaning, it wouldn't matter if they read a recipe book out in place of the lyrics; they'd still shine brighter than the sun.

@@toadsauce8091 That is correct. She talked about it. She was asked to shorten it and leave a portion out in rehearsal. She was so nervous that she almost forgot and caught herself.

Ingrid Michaelson's "Still Breathing" doesn't help!

My daughter (9 then) and I watched this together. As soon as she finished her song, I said to my daughter, "There's the winner. She will win." Grace has gone on to write and perform many originals that are as awesome as her first. I doubt she will ever achieve the popularity/fame of Taylor Swift, but that's not really her nature from what I can tell. But she will be a successful artist for years to come.

Her mom's look at 3:08 is so powerfully emotional - you can tell she's deliriously happy, excited for her daughter but also in that moment stunned and even a bit overwhelmed/frightened because she's realizing from this moment on her daugther's life will never be the same

She's only gotten better

It's when she starts singing and you can see her nerves and the crowd cheer and her little face lights up and she gained all that confidence. So effin cute. Glad she won. ❤

Her big sister is 100% behind her... it is so touching.. I love this video :)

She absolutely blew me away when I saw her on TV. This was so good and watching the show live It really took me by surprise. The song still holds up today.

Yeah, I'll stick with what I said, and by the way, she's grown now and has turned into ............. not much. Now, can I do any better? What you're really saying or should be saying is, why do I feel that way?? Because, long ago, I was all state tenor with extensive experience in Washington state, but that was many years ago. My path went a different road and I'm now not involved with music other than listening to it. That doesn't mean I have forgotten, or do not know real talent when I see or hear it. Simon said it at the end of this clip... She is truely special. and Howie picked up on her presence right away... but the very second he hear the first line of this song... His eyes lit up.... but the best was when she cut loose near the end and showed us all she had the capacity to fully express her feelings in front of a large audience... quite a huge step for a truly innocent 12 yr old from singing in her room with a toy guitar to standing in front of all of her countrymen belting out her heart. All of us music lovers need to make sure we are properly supporting her music by buying what we can and attending where we can...

A ukulele is not a “Toy Guitar”, it’s a legitimate instrument. Not even the same number of strings or the same tuning.

She may not be the biggest name in the business, but for those of us that have followed her career, she is STILL an amazing, creative, unique, talented, and original performer. While there are times I wish she had the fame and success of Taylor Swift, I love that she has remained true to herself and her roots.
