and Katy's wrong for that? She kept on singing in cursive and from the way she was acting she was definitely upset by the break up. Katy did what a judge should do, Is to guide and teach the contestants and she was very encouraging here

No. It doesn't work like that. She showed empathy and gave her validation and a lil confidence boost. But that doesn't magically erase/fix someone's problems. I like how Katy saw behind the mask, advised her and gave her a chance. "It's easier to strip it off then build it up" is exactly right and this personal work needs to take place for her happiness/success.

I mean... I agree in theory BUT, you have no clue what their relationship consisted of. She could have been a great girlfriend or a really crappy one or anything in between on both ends. Maybe they just aren't meant to be or maybe he pushed her away to see if she stepped up like she just did. The world isn't always black and white or yes and no, right or wrong. All we can do is see where this goes and give support or constructive critism when we can.

Succeeding in American Idol or in you career is not going to make a guy want you more. They’ll be happy for you but that’s not what’s important to guys. Those are things import to girls.

She just needed confidence in her voice. Once she gets over those insecurities and sings with strength she will be beautiful.

Yeah at first I was relating to Luke for ripping off the Band-Aid and being so practical but the "loss" to the competition versus sending that poor broken girl in a tailspin was, in her mind, probably a tolerable calculation.

What I thought still stands, she had a really cool lyrics that had an amazing swing to the words, both in rhyming and content. Some of these judges think they have the right to push a little too far with some contestants and this time even rudely interrupted her before she had started, asking if she was even speaking English. Luckily the singer was nice enough to play along and humor them, given that she probably has more riding on this than we would know. I feel the judges are acting more like clowns these days and are only interested in the rates of the channel, nothing more. Her voice was very special and not something to destroy after 1 min of meeting her. She needs all the support she can get at this point and it was so refreshing to hear something new too. Poor baby, once Katy started telling her she knew the truth about her she couldn’t stop the tears and made me tear up

she actually has a great voice, i could hear it for like a split second but definitely needs to practice her enunciation.... even after katy told her i couldn’t understand one word and i know the song lol but she does have a lot of potential!! maybe she will be this seasons underdog and surprise everyone!

This show is so beyond just a singing. It's about human spirit, achievements and failures. Folks that have enough courage to get on cam and display their talents are brave souls including Erika. For her to show up, sing, and display that she IS worthy to prove a point to her boy friend is so brave, so amazing and beyond wonderful to see. Way to go Erika, my hat is off to you. In her case not only the sky is the limit so is the space in universe and then some. Bravo, bravo, bravo!!!!!!

I like that Katy didn’t sugar coat but stated the facts with empathy and straight forward.

This screams feminism. The way katy could just see through her unrelated sister just woman to woman was so touching. This audition was so much more than just singing. This shows character building and driver u up from your roots. To all the sisters there are, you go girl. Never let anybody let you down. You're strong and even if they do break you, you can heal from it. Every meltdown is just gonna make you stronger. NEVER GIVE UP WE LOVE YOU.

I hope she does good. You can tell shes a nice girl she just has to be comfortable just being herself

That style is everything but unique. So many people sing that way and it's nothing but annoying. The girl from Germany who won the Eurovision song contest in 2010 sang that way, especially on the studio recording. But it was somewhat more cohesive.

I would have probably enjoyed her voice if SOOOOO many people aren’t trying to to COPY this exact style. It is no longer eccentric or different, but rather a trend. Girl, you have a strong voice! Use it where people can understand your words! You have talent. Use it!

Luke knows as a professional singer how long it takes to break a very very bad habit that has developed in a singer. He was not wrong in his judgement; taking her on is a huge risk if that habit isn't broken (Lionel knew that) Katie may be thinking she's the one for the job and that's why she said yes. Because Luke said no does not mean he did not make a good judgement; it is his professional opinion. ( I am a classically trained vocalist..love the quality and tone of her voice and it has huge potential but she needs a lot of corrective work ) .

It’s vocal coaching love, you don’t learn to sing by sitting quietly. You learn by ear and the sound of your voice. Katy did great 💛
